Octopus on Sand Dollar

There is something enigmatic about the octopus.  It is one of the earliest thinking creatures on the earth (research it -- I'm not making that up).  It's fluid and mystical, graceful, deadly, mysterious....magical.  I love octopuses (that is actually the correct plural for the species, believe it or not).  They are intelligent.  They don't like to be trapped.  They can figure things out.  If there was any creature that I could be beyond a pug or a rat, it would be an octopus.  It's my spirit animal of the sea -- and it can be yours, too.

This piece is made of an up cycle Christmas ornament covered with polymer clay.  To get some decent depth of color, I added alcohol ink (red, crimson and purple, as well as the cream undertone to create the texture).  This sits on top of a sand dollar, also painted with alcohol ink.  The entire piece is 3 inches tall and 4 inches around.
